Multicoloured painted pottery vase ‘Damascus’ with an abstract decoration, made ca. 1909. The designer, painter and chemist D. Harkink (1862-1953) came to work in the factory in 1901 and developed a new glaze and glaze technique in 1909.
By combining the matte glaze with the new technique of pre-fired painting, the decor could be applied in a single all covering way onto the pre-fired matte glaze, after which these were fired together. The result of this combination was also referred to as ‘Rhodian’ glaze. The matte glaze was used for the first time with decor ‘Damascus’.
The painting of this vase was by L.W. Veen. Will be shipped with registration.
