Tarjotin tarjotin - Hardwood - Kalat - Burma / Myanmar - 1900-luvun alku

DESCRIPTION:

‘Kalat’ made of carved and lacquered teak, used to bring offerings to the monasteries during Buddhist ceremonies. Height: 8 cm - Diameter: 47 cm. These objects had a double function and were also used as trays for meals, the guests would sit around it and share the food displayed on it.

It was carved in a tree ‘slice’, with a beautiful patina.

This type of object has become more and more difficult to find, purchased on site in Bagan in the early 1980s.

In Burma, when I am invited to eat, we are always sitting on the ground, around a low table on which the food is placed, which for someone like me, who is not flexible, can quickly become complicated and uncomfortable. But it is compensated by the kindness of the welcome and by the discovery of local flavours which are sometimes surprising.

CONDITION:

In good condition but with some marks caused by its age and use (check pictures).

It will be carefully packaged and shipped with insurance with tracking, via Bpost.
